Normandy scene

Friday:
We depart London at 18:30 to make our way to Portsmouth where we catch the overnight ferry to Le Havre.

Saturday:
We start the day by traveling out to the D Day Beaches. Our first stop is to visit the American Cemetery and nearby Omaha Beach. Moving along the coast we visit Arromanches-les-Bains. Here you can see the remains of the Mulberry Harbour built for the D Day landings. You can also visit the 360 Museum. Last stop is Bayeux famous for the Bayeux Tapestry that tells the story of William the Conquer. Finally to our hotel in Caen. You can venture into town tonight.

Sunday:
We travel across to the famous Mont Saint Michel. The Mont is surrounded by sea with a tidal range of 15 metres. At low tide you can walk the one km to the Mont. The Abbey dominates the rock outcrop and is open to visitors. Moving on we cross from Normandy to Brittany and make our way to St Malo, a walled city. The city ramparts are largely original and offer superb views over the city and surrounding countryside. Enjoy a meal out at a local restaurant renowned for their seafood. We head back to our hotel mid evening.

Monday:
Departing after breakfast we make our way to Rouen, it is here that Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. Discover more about her life and death by visiting the Museum. Explore the old town and check out the bones of the black plague victims. There is a local market in the centre, a chance to purchase local camembert cheese. Our last stop will be in Honfluer a picturesque fishing port famous for its seafood restaurants. A visit to the wooden Cathedral is a must along with exploring the local shop.
